The successor to one of the best selling surprise mobile hits of 2010, the Orange San Francisco, has gone on sale as the Orange Monte Carlo for £149.99, a price that excludes the compulsory £10 topup.
The Monte Carlo, which is also known as the ZTE Skate, first appeared back in February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and was placed on preorder from Orange back in June 2011.
We were slightly disappointed to see that the Skate could be preordered from one popular online retailer for £250, but it has been confirmed that existing Orange customers who have been with the network for at least three months, will be offered a £30 discount plus £10 free credit, bringing the price down to £120, hardly more than the price of the ZTE Blade/Orange San Francisco.
Compared to the OSF, Monte Carlo comes with a bigger 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 800MHz Qualcomm SoC, a camera with a higher pixel count (three megapixel vs five megapixel) and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
It also comes with Orange Maps and the network's exclusive HD voice feature. Other features include a 10.4mm thickness, a weight of 120g, 512MB RAM, Signal Boost (UMA), a 1400mAh battery, FM Radio, Wi-Fi plus a raft of Orange apps and branded services.
