The successor to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini, the Xperia Mini (sans the X10) has gone on sale at Carphone Warehouse for a mere £160 including a £10 top up on all major mobile phone networks excluding 3 Mobile (ed : that's a Pay as you go offer).
The device comes with some impressive specification for the price and is likely to give the ZTE Skate a run for its money although not when it comes to the screen size.
Both target different audiences; the Xperia Mini will appeal to the same demographics as the Xperia X10 Mini, those looking for a compact smartphone with advanced features.
The Xperia Mini comes with a 3-inch Bravia capacitive touchscreen with a HVGA resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz system on chip, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a number of exclusive Sony Ericsson apps and a five megapixel rear camera with HD video recording.
Although it is slightly thicker than what we'd expect at 16mm (that's nearly twice the thickness of the Xperia Arc), it is very light at 99g and has a 270 minutes talk time on 2G or 3G.
Expect the Xperia Mini to be a popular handset on sub £15 monthly contracts where it will face a raft of Android Gingerbread competitors like the GT-S5610.
