AMD Hires Lenovo’s Rory Read as New CEO

Chipmaker AMD has announced that Rory P. Read from Lenovo is joining the company as its new president and chief executive officer.

The company also stated that the new recruitment, to be effective immediately, will see Mr. Read joining the board of directors as well. Read has already earned a fair bit of reputation in the industry with his leadership skills in other major companies such as Lenovo Group and IBM.

Meanwhile, the interim CEO Thomas Seifert who was heading the company since January following the departure of his predecessor Dirk Meyer, will be coming back to his original role as its Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Applauding the company’s existing staff, product lines as well as the financial standing, the newly appointed CEO and president stated that his primary focus will be on making AMD explore new opportunities "within the PC ecosystem and beyond."

Before joining AMD, Read was serving the PC and laptop maker Lenovo Group as its president and chief operational officer. His role there involved looking after the company’s global operations on a day-to-bay basis, as well as keeping a close eye on its growth strategies.

To his glory, many industry experts have termed Read as the driving force behind Lenovo’s expanding market shares.
