Frank Gibeau, the president of the maker of massively popular titles such as Need for Speed and the FIFA series, EA Games, is pretty confident about Sony’s forthcoming venture in the handheld gaming console market, the PlayStation Vita.
Apparently, Mr. Gibeau believes that Sony has somehow managed to make the PlayStation Portable successor more attractive to smartphone users as compared to what the company’s arch rival Nintendo could achieve.
"I think [Sony has] got a shot because they have some really unique innovation in the control scheme, the technology and the screen. It's got a lot of social features now so that you can actually communicate with our friends and be social," Gibeau stated, IndustryGamers reports.
"I think they've got most of the capabilities that you'd find in a smartphone, with some unique capabilities that make them stand out," he added.
He also made it clear that EA Games is currently betting on Vita as it is equipped with a “stronger title slate at launch”.
But, at a time when the handheld gaming console market is undergoing a massive decline, the latest price cut in the Nintendo 3DS console barely a few months after its launch being a perfect example of that trend, it will be really interesting to see what marketing strategy Sony adopts in order to make the Vita a success in the market.
