Sainsbury’s Shopping Trolleys Get iPad Docking Station

UK retailer Sainsbury’s is trialling a new shopping trolley which will allow people to play with their iPads while they shop.

The company is testing the trolleys in its store at Cromwell Road in Kensington, London. The trolley comes with its own iPad dock and speakers to allow shoppers to use them while they shop in the store.

The trolley also comes with a sensor fitted at its bumpers which warns users when they get too close to other customers while they are busy on the iPad. It also comes with a solar powered battery pack which will allow customers to charge the iPad on the go.

UK broadcaster Sky has had them developed to promote its Sky Go service, which allows iPad users to watch live games and news on their tablet PC devices. If the trial is successful, Sainsbury’s will be rolling out the trolleys across its stores in the United Kingdom.

"Being able to create a gadget that is practical yet innovative is often a challenge but I think with the trolley we've cracked it. The trolley can be used in the traditional way for shopping yet streams the latest sports news easily,” said Ian Burgess of Setwo Designs, the company which designed the trolley for Sky.

Many believe that practically this doesn't seem an easy task as customers will find it tough to shop while using their iPads.
