Navigation services provider Garmin has released its first on-demand iPhone app to provide users with walking and driving directions on the go.
The StreetPilot onDemand iPhone app, which is now available from the App Store, is being offered for $0.99 with a subscription for 30 days and comes with turn-by-turn, voice prompted navigation and traffic rerouting features.
After the 30 days are up, users will be able to take a $2.99 per month subscription or pay $29.99 for a whole year. The company is offering the yearly subscription at an introductory price of $19.99 from August 31, 2011, to September 14, 2011.
Even if the users don’t take any subscription, they will be able to view maps, lookup points of interest and create routes. However, if they want turn by turn voice navigation, real-time traffic information and multimodal pedestrian routing, they will have to go for monthly or annual subscriptions.
"Our new StreetPilot onDemand app is the perfect solution for anyone who occasionally needs navigation but still is looking for a premium experience and precise directions. There is nothing comparable in the App Store today," said Dan Bartel, Garmin's vice president of worldwide sales.
"By including multimodal pedestrian routing, our new app is especially helpful for users in urban areas. The app seamlessly provides directions in the car and integrates public transportation when getting directions by foot." he added.
