HTC Titan Windows Phone Becomes Official

HTC has finally unveiled some of its new range of Windows Phone handsets due at the end of the year, and there's just enough hardware improvements for it to be seen as superior - featurewise - to HTC's own Android portfolio.

The Titan features a 1.5GHz SoC, the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255T, which is the same one that powers the Flyer. It comes with 512MB RAM and 16GB onboard storage, twice what Windows Phone handsets usually come with.

The main attraction though is its 4.7-inch capacitive display which disappointingly comes with a WVGA resolution, meaning that its pixel density falls to 199ppi which compares poorly to the iPhone 4's 326ppi.

In addition, HTC has significantly improved the camera onboard, shifting to a 28mm, F2.2 lens and a BSI sensor which promises better low-light video and still captures. The pixel count is average at eight megapixels and HTC has judiciously decided to throw a dual LED flash in there.

The rest of the features include a micro USB port, five sensors, support for SRS and 5.1 surround sound, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The Titan is powered by Windows Phone Mango and offers tethering as well as native support for Zune, Xbox Live and Skydrive.

At 160g and with a thickness of around 10mm, it is certainly one of the better Windows Phone handsets out there. It remains to be seen how HTC will price it.
