A photograph of an internal Best Buy retail calendar points to Friday, the 21st of October, as a possible date for the launch of the highly anticipated iPhone 5.
The document, which was leaked by tech website ThisIsMyNext (opens in new tab), shows that an Apple fixture installation is scheduled for the date in question, but the request for a manager to be on hand at 6AM (as the photo shows) is highly unusual and this arrangement brings back memories of the iPhone 4 release, which took place in similar circumstances.
The same source revealed information about a meeting that Best Buy Mobile managers have scheduled for October the 10th to discuss "upcoming big release dates" which also sustains this time frame.
Moreover, early/mid-October has already been put forward by many pundits as a time for the release, which took a more formal turn when a report from the Wall Street Journal (23rd of August) also pointed out this period for the launch. And since we haven't yet heard any news from Apple about the subject, its safe a release much earlier than this is out of the question.
Though it appears unusual that thousands of Best Buy staff might be more or less informed about the release date over 6 weeks in advance, the 21st of October is still a date that we should keep an eye on.
