Rap sensation Lil Wayne is on the verge of making history as the first ever rapper to have bagged two back to back million-selling titles.
According to the data released by Nielsen SoundScan Wayne’s new album is going to debut in the Billboard 200 chart next week at the numero uno position. Thanks to a record-setting iTunes sales figure of near about 300,000, the album, as of now has a registered sale of 964,000 copies worldwide.
The figure was certainly more than enough to surpass the legendary rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP) who secured the #2 spot with its brand new album “I’m with you” sold over 229,000 copies.
It’s noteworthy that this new album by RHCP has sold even less than half as much the band’s previous double album package Stadium Arcadium did. Stadium Arcadium, which featured smashing hit tracks such as Snow and Dani California, sold over 443,000 copies in its first week alone.
The rest of the top 10 acts are: Jay-Z and Kanye West, Watch the Throne (#4, 80,000); Game, The R.E.D. Album (#8, 39,000); Barbra Streisand, What Matters Most: Barbra Streisand Sings the Lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman (#9, 37,000) and NOW 39 (#10, 36,000).
