Cisco Collaborating with Virgin Media to Increase Internet Speeds on Existing Network

Cisco Systems revealed today that it is currently collaborating with Virgin Media to better its network by deploying DOCSIS 3.0 technology to provide high speed Internet services on the company’s existing network setup.

Recently, a trial test was conducted in East London. The Virgin Media network achieved remarkably faster speed - about 1.5 Gbps. The test involved Cisco's (3G60) Broadband Processing Engine and cost-effective line card for Cisco's flagship uBR10K Universal Broadband Router and Cable Modem Termination System.

Cisco’s 3G60 enables a single Cisco Universal Broadband Router to support as much as 576 downstream, as well as up yo 480 upstream channels per chassis. Interestingly, this happens to be the highest density and capacity in the entire industry.

Cisco CMTS solutions are designed to support large scale IP broadband and video service today -- as well as the migration to IP networks in the near future,” said Vice President and General Manager, Mark Palazzo in a statement (opens in new tab).

“We are proud to help Virgin Media achieve such significant milestones with its network capacity and broadband connection speeds,” he added.
