The Linux Foundation has taken down its main websites and other related websites after suffering a hack attack on its servers.
The organisation discovered the attack on its servers on September 8, after which it decided to take down the websites until it figures out what happened.
“Linux Foundation infrastructure including LinuxFoundation.org, Linux.com, and their subdomains are down for maintenance due to a security breach that was discovered on September 8, 2011. The Linux Foundation made this decision in the interest of extreme caution and security best practices. We believe this breach was connected to the intrusion on kernel.org,” the Linux Foundation said in a post.
The Linux Foundation said that it was in the middle of restoring access to the websites as securely as possible. The foundation advised that people should consider the passwords and SSH keys used by them on the website as compromised and proceed to change them if they have been used on other websites.
The websites will be back online once the Linux Foundation finishes auditing the system and finds out the intricate details about the attack.
