NBC News’ Twitter Account Hack & Ground Zero Tweets Invite FBI Probe

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has announced that it is probing the hacking of the NBC News twitter account.

The hacking, which took place on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, saw hackers posting a false message that terrorists have hijacked a civilian aircraft and crashed it into Ground Zero in New York.

“Breaking News! Ground Zero has just been attacked. Flight 5736 has crashed into the site, suspected hijacking. More as the story develops,” the first of the bogus tweets read.

“Flight 4782 is not responding, suspected hijacking. One plane just hit Ground Zero site at 5:47,” read a follow up tweet.

According to MSNBC, the false messages were removed from the account as soon as when they were discovered.

The password to the account which was hacked was known to only three NBC executives. Despite this, hackers managed to break into the account indicating that how easy it is for hackers to take over accounts on social networking platforms like Twitter.

Hacker group Script Kiddies is most likely to be behind the hacking. “NBCNEWS hacked by The Script Kiddies,” read a message from the hacked NBC News Twitter account.
