Forget the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Xperia Play Now Available From £165

The price of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play smartphone has fallen down again to a mere £165, making it the best value Android smartphone on the market.

MobilePhonesDirect (opens in new tab) has the handset on Vodafone Pay as you go at that price, which however excludes a £10 top up which will bring the price to £175 (while providing 300 free texts and 500MB mobile internet).

As for the handset itself, it has been billed as the first PlayStation branded smartphone ever, and brings with it Sony's console gaming pedigree which ranges from classic titles to recent games as well.

Specifications-wise, it features the same specs as the rest of the recent Sony Ericsson Xperia handsets (bar the Xperia arc S).

So there's a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC clocked at 1GHz, a Scorpion-based 8655 model, 512MB RAM, a microSD card slot, a 4-inch 854x480 pixel capacitive screen, a five megapixel camera and Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread.

Probably the main attractions of the Play are its slide out gaming controller that features proper shoulder pads for a proper "gamer" feel and its Playstation Games store. All in all, at this price, there's simply no competition for the Xperia Play either from Sony Ericsson's own range or from rivals.
