50,000 Cases On Their Way for 4.4-Inch iPhone 5?

Reportedly, case manufacturer Hard Candy is working on 50,000 cases for a mysterious Apple device. The CultofMac website reports (opens in new tab) that the cases measure 4.44 inches diagonally and could either be for the expected iPhone 5 or for a larger upcoming iPod.

If this is a sneak peak of the new iPhone, it seems that most of analysts are going to be very surprised. This iPhone handset would be almost an inch larger than its predecessor the iPhone 4 and even larger than one of the biggest Android smartphones, HTC Evo 4G.

Tim Hickman, Hard Candy CEO, assumes that Apple could prepare to test and launch a new iPod touch. Even the release of a smaller iPad, a low-end version of the existing one is not to be disregarded. It seems possible, especially now that Amazon has put out the Kindle Fire, already perceived as a device to fight Apple's supremacy on the tablet market.

Whatever the case, Hard Candy officials are so confident that the production of 50,000 cases has already started, in the hope of beating other competitors to the shelves.
