Eight of the ten European start-ups shortlisted by US beverage maker PepsiCo in a recent competition are from the UK.
According to V3, the company started a competition to find the top ten most innovative start-ups back in June, having already conducted a similar contest in the United States. The company informed that it received 130 applications from all over Europe for the competition.
The winners of the competition will be getting marketing assistance from Pepsi for the next year and might also work with the company in the future. Pepsi plans to launch a similar competition in Asia next year.
One of the eight UK companies shortlisted by Pepsi include Slingshot Shopping, an e-commerce company which allows users to use a single shopping basket for their online shopping from various retail websites.
“There are a lot of 'second screen' technologies in the US, but there are a lot more mobile and e-commerce offerings in the UK. I am bullish that the UK start-up scene is really coming,” Bonin Bough, global director of digital and social media at PepsiCo told V3. He also revealed that around 60 percent of the total European applicants were from the UK.
