Anonymous has threatened to bring down the New York Stock Exchange as a part of its ‘Occupy Wall Street’ campaign.
According to an article (opens in new tab) on Fox News, the group has threatened to erase the stock exchange from the Internet on October 10th.
“On Oct. 10, NYSE shall be erased from the Internet. On Oct. 10, expect a day that will never, ever be forgotten,” the group said in a video message posted on the Anonymous YouTube video channel.
The group said the attack would be a part of the Occupy Wall Street protest in New York. The protesters are demanding greater financial regulations and steps to lessen economic inequality in the country.
An FBI spokesperson told Fox News that the agency was aware of the threats and are investigating them.
“The FBI is aware of these schemes and threats and is looking into the matter,” said an FBI spokesperson.
Meanwhile, another message from Anonymous, which surfaced some time after the initial video warning, claimed that the threat to knock down Wall Street was a ‘fake’ planted by law enforcement and cyber crime agencies.
