Microsoft Windows Azure Tops CloudSleuth Speed Test Charts

Software giant Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform has beaten rivals Amazon EC2 and Google App Engine in terms of speeds.

Azure managed to beat each and every rival in the cloud computing domain in a massive round of speed tests.

Application performance management company Compuware ran speed tests on the platforms from 25 vendors, using its own cloud testing tool CloudSleuth. The company has released a year’s worth of testing data for everyone to see.

The company, using 30 nodes spread across the globe, tested the performance of the cloud computing platforms after every 15 minutes. Compuware performed 515,000 tests on the platforms between August 2010 and July 2011.

Compuware informed that it had used a fake e-commerce website to run tests on the platforms and admitted that using simply a website was every limited.

“We deploy an identical target application (a cute/fake e-commerce site that sells boots) to each cloud service provider. The Gomez Performance Network (GPN) is used to run test transactions on the deployed target applications and monitor the response time and availability from multiple points around the globe,” the company said.
