Vodafone May Move to Acquire Blackberry Maker RIM

Word on the street is that multi-national telecom giant Vodafone is considering acquiring the BlackBerry and PlayBook maker Research In Motion (RIM).

The news, which has already spread laround the Web, first surfaced yesterday when a BGR report claimedthat there is a possibility the Canadian tech giant will be acquired by Vodafone.

According to the BGR report, shares of the BlackBerry maker were consistently going up for the second straight day after rumors emerged about the company’s desire to look for and find out potential buyer.

“‘RIM’s stock was up as much as 14 percent on Wednesday morning as mysteriously sourced rumours suggested U.K. carrier Vodafone is considering an acquisition,” the report added.

The market was already speculating about RIM undergoing a severe financial crisis due to the lack of cash.

According to many analysts, the last hope for RIM to avoid a complete turnover is the introduction of the QNX operating system platform into its smartphones. These next-generation handsets are likely to be the most powerful, pretty-designed as well as up-to-date devices the company has ever produced.
