YouTube Starts Movie Rental Service in UK

Google owned video sharing platform YouTube has launched its online movie rental service in the UK.

According to the company, the new movie rental service will give Britons access to more than 1,000 movies produced by Hollywood and UK based movie studios for rent.

Google said that several movie pages will feature free YouTube Movie Extras content which will feature behind the scenes video clips, interviews with actors, parodies of the movie in question and videos pertaining to the movie, which have been developed by YouTube’s content providers, among other clips.

“From blockbusters like The Dark Knight and Reservoir Dogs, to new releases such as Hanna, Fast Five and Red Riding Hood, and even British classics like Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, you can find many of your favourite films in high quality available to rent now at youtube.com/movies,” stated Matteo Vallone, YouTube business product manager in a blog post.

Vallone also informed that additional videos and features will be added to the YouTube Movie Extras over time.

“Britain has a long history of cinema, starting from the first moving pictures being developed on celluloid film in the UK. Now British film buffs can be part of the digital revolution too, at youtube.com/movies,” he added.
