Security software provider Symantec is strengthening its Storage and Availability Management software (SAMG) with the launch of its sixth version, aimed at the virtualised cloud industry.
The new version is basically another push by the company on its credentials as a multi-vendor, with the vision of beefing up its capabilities to provide security, availability and storage management in data centres.
However, this vision of the company is bound to come under some serious pressure from other leading brands in the industry such as VMware. Another challenge Symantec could face in implementing on these visions is the difficulty associated with the storage management in data centres.
With this brand new offering, dubbed SAMG, the company is likely to come up with a non-trivial cloud service solution for its clients by exploiting their existing infrastructures.
The products included in the SAMG suite are: Veritas Storage Foundation 6.0, Veritas Cluster Server 6.0, Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows 6.0, Symantec ApplicationHA 6.0, Symantec ApplicationHA 6.0, Veritas Storage Foundation for Sybase ACE 6.0 and Veritas Replicator 6.0 amongst others.
“The upgraded software should cope a lot better with multi-tiered applications that provide a business service, and ensure the protection and availability of virtual business services (VBS),” according to a report by Channel Register.
