iPad 2 Rival Alert: Archos Arnova 10 G2 Tablet On Preorder From £150

Comet has put the Archos Arnova 10 G2 on preorder (with instore collection only) for just £150, which is the best price for that tablet in the UK.

The device (opens in new tab) is the largest of the new Archos Arnova budget tablets that have been recently launched and comes with a single core Rockchip RK2818 ARM Cortex-A8 based SoC clocked at 1GHz.

Like most Android tablets, it has a 10.1-inch screen but this one is limited to a 1024x600 pixel resolution, which means that it's only good for Gingerbread rather than Honeycomb (or Android 2.0 as Comet wrongly shows).

Other specs include 4GB onboard memory, possibly 512MB RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, two USB ports, a SD card slot, a webcam (but no back camera), up to 10 hours battery life (with four hours charging time) and a weight of 570g.

It won't challenge the iPad 2 or the Galaxy Tab when it comes to thickness as this one is nearly 14mm thick. Note that HMV is currently selling the same tablet on preorder for £260.

The Arnova is not as cheap as the Hannspree Hannspad or as well configured, but the latter is on its way out and we've learnt that existing stocks are indeed being cleared out ahead of a probable new Hannspree tablet set for the end of the year.
