The Lenovo Ideapad A1 tablet has gone on preorder in the US for $229 rather than the promised $199 with the estimated shipping date being the 8th of November.
The tablet is listed on Lenovo's US website alongside two other models that only differ in the amount of onboard storage, price and colour (16GB white and 16GB black for $249).
The baseline for the A1 still remains the same; a Texas Instruments OMAP3622 Cortex A8 SoC clocked at 1GHz, 512MB RAM, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 7-inch LED capacitive touchscreen with a 1024x600 pixel resolution, a front-facing VGA camera and a three megapixel rear one, 2GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a one cell Li-Polymer battery.
It would probably be a wiser choice to fork out the extra $20 to get the additional 14GB memory and add a 32GB microSD card subsequently.
The Lenovo Ideapad A1 is by far the cheapest branded tablet on the market and, at half the price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab or the HTC Flyer, is likely to be a popular choice ahead of the Christmas period. Lenovo hasn't confirmed when and indeed if the tablet will be available in the UK.
