Sony Bravia TVs go up in smoke

Some Sony Bravia TV sets have been getting so hot they've been giving off smoke, prompting a recall of 1.6 million tellies.

It appears a faulty back-lighting system is causing the TVs to overheat, giving off smoke and melting components.

Sony said it had received word of 11 incidents of melting Bravias from customers in Japan. and a s a result is recalling all 40-inch LCD sets manufactured in 2007 and 2008. Some 130,000 of the sets were sold in the UK.

Sony said it is seeking to contact customers who have purchased the dodgy models, which are the following: Sony Bravia KDL-40 D3400, Sony Bravia KDL-40 D3500, Sony Bravia KDL-40 D3660, Sony Bravia KDL-40 V3000, Sony Bravia KDL-40 W3000, Sony Bravia KDL-40 X3000, Sony Bravia KDL-40 X3500.
