Citrix Systems Acquires ShareFile, a Cloud Document Sharing Service for Business

Citrix Systems which is a server and application virtualisation juggernaut has bought ShareFile.

ShareFile runs a cloud document sharing service for businesses. The company was founded in November 2005 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Since then, the company has grown organically without any venture funding.

Founded by Jesse Lipson, a graduate from Duke University and self taught programmer, ShareFile is the third company he has started since graduating. Vice President of Technology, Peter Hebert and Vice President of Operations, Nate Spilker both have tech backgrounds and also graduated from Duke.

The company currently has100 employees and it 17,000 corporate customers using its document sharing and collaboration service.

These services were created by Lipson who was annoyed because he thought FTP was “clunky and amateurish.”

ShareFile has over 100 customisable features that allow end users to customise it as per specific users and industries.

Citrix has not disclosed any detail related to finances. However, Chief Marketing Officer Wes Wasson of Citrix said that Lipson will now be the Vice President.
