Microsoft to Provide BI Applications to Android and iOS Platforms

Microsoft is planning to bring its Business Intelligence applications to Android and iOS platforms.

When Microsoft highlighted its plans to roll out Hadoop big data analysis software distributions at the Microsoft SQL PASS Summit, it also revealed its Business Intelligence software roadmap, which went largely unnoticed.

According to an article (opens in new tab) on ZD Net, the company plans to bring its BI applications to non-Microsoft platforms in 2012.

The BI road map reveals that the company plans to launch web based versions of its BI software for web browsers in Apple’s iOS and Windows devices during the first half of 2012.

During the second half of 2012, the company will bring touch support to data exploration and visualisation for devices based on iOS, Windows and Android, including tablet devices. Microsoft also plans to bring support for its BI applications to tablet devices running on Windows 8 post 2012.

Microsoft’s Business Intelligence applications include PowerPivot, SharePoint search, Excel and PerformancePoint.

“Microsoft’s is committed to delivering highly interactive and immersive BI experiences across different devices to all users wherever they are,” Microsoft said in a statement (opens in new tab) on the SQL Pass page.
