Seems like tough time awaits Netflix in the foreseeable future as an emerging competitor of the company, dubbed VDIO is currently being developed by the same team originally assigned to develop the VoIP platform Skype.
VDIO has reportedly entered its closed beta status, and is likely to be launched in the UK soon.
These latest developments in the on-demand Internet streaming industry were first spotted by and revealed by GigaOm.
According to the GigaOm report, VDIO happens to be the result of a collaborative attempt by Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom - the same duo, responsible for introducing music services such as Rdio.
It is yet to be known what kind of services VDIO will exactly be providing. As of now, the site only has a selection of animated clips from various TV shows and movies, licensed by Warner Bros, Sony, Fox, AMC and Showtime. Judging by the studios it has managed to tie up with it may be safe to guess that the services will be of high-quality, content wise, as it needs to challenge the existing big names in the industry including Netflix.
“VDIO lets you instantly watch the best in TV and movies, right now” the company states.
