Steve Ballmer Lambasts Android as Being Complicated

Update: Web 2.0 Summit Photos & Video added.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer claims that Android smartphones are so complicated that people need to be computer scientists to use them.

Speaking during the Web 2.0 conference, Ballmer said that compared to Windows Phone, Android smartphones were far more complicated. "You don't need to be a computer scientist to use a Windows phone and you do to use and Android phone...It is hard for me to be excited about the Android phones," Ballmer said, when asked to compare Windows Phone with Android reports The Register (opens in new tab).

Microsoft has a momentous task of taking on Android and iOS, the two most popular players in the global smartphone markets. In order to beat the odds, the company has partnered with Nokia, to make Windows Phone Mango devices.

Ballmer also had a few words to say about Apple. He claimed that Apple was a good competitor but its devices were different from Windows Phone. He also praised Apple's voice activated virtual assistant, Siri.

"Both [an iPhone and a Windows phone] are going to feel very good in your hand and both going to look very beautiful physically.... but when you grab a Windows phone and use it... your information is front and centre... and you don't have to scroll through seas of icons and blah blah blah" Ballmer said.
