Facebook releases Messenger app for Research In Motion BlackBerry mobile phones

Popular social networking company Facebook has announced an update to their Facebook Messenger application, where the software can now be used for the very first time on a BlackBerry handset.

Messenger was launched in August for Android and Apple platforms and offers up the functionality of Facebook Chat, without the extra features of the social networking website.

Facebook messages are delivered through notifications and texts messages, either through an individual message or a group one. This saves the need to either contact someone on Facebook, or send them a text message – as one message can do both.

There are new aspects to the Facebook Messenger app from the earlier version, where now you can see who's online and who's on a mobile device, whilst also being able to see when the other person is typing.

Facebook has also added support for 22 different languages for Android, along with 12 new for the iPhone and support for the new iOS 5 platform.
