A newly uncovered vulnerabiity in Adobe's Flash player could allow access to our webcam through the use of a specially crafted web page.
Somewhat ironically the exploit has only so far been demonstrated on Apple Macs on which platform both Safari and Firefox browsers are vulnerable.
The hole in was discovered by a computer science student at Stanford University named Feross Aboukhadijeh, who says he brought it to the attention of Adobe some weeks back but failed to get a response, leading him to publicly expose the flaw in order to get the firm to buck its ideas up.
Adobe finally released a fix for the flaw this week and it didn't require a security update. Rather, a simple tweak of the Flash Player's Website Privacy Settings panel will prevent unauthorised sites gaining access a user's camera and microphone.
