Carphone Warehouse drops BlackBerry Playbook tablet to £249

Popular high-street mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse has announced a price drop in the Research In Motion BlackBerryPlayBook tablet to £249 for the 16GB model, £329 for the 32GB version and £409 for the 64GB variant.

Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy were previously selling these devices for £399, £479 and £559 – where the new cost deduction saves £150 on all models.

This is a time limited deal on all the three BlackBerry PlayBooks, both on-line and in store until December 31st this year.

Research In Motion’s 16GB tablet is also free for Carphone Warehouse customers taking up the Curve 3G mobile phone, on a £31 a month contract – where the previous cost was a monthly £36.

The BlackBerry PlayBook was unveiled in September last year, at the RIM Developers conference in America where the device eventually arrived min-June this year.

RIM’s tablet has a 7-inch WSVGA capacitive touch screen, running from a dual-core 1GHz processor with 1GB of RAM, a rear-facing 5 megapixel camera and a front 3MP version with a microHDMI and microUSB port, WIFI and Bluetooth support.

One Mobile Ring caught up with the BlackBerry PlayBook at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year, where we published a hands-on walkthrough of its features on a video here.
