Google launches Android movie rentals in UK

Google has launched a UK movie rental service via its Android Market - with prices starting from as little as £2.59.

The search engine began rolling out its Movies for Android service in America during July, as part of an Android Market overhaul that saw e-books added to its list of wares.

The UK service will begin initially with 1,000 titles, available either to stream or as a download that must be viewed within 30 days of purchase. Once started, films must be watched within 48 hours.

Movies for Android's UK launch catalogue includes action films, comedy, cartoons, family entertainment, drama, documentary and horror, with prices rising to £3.49 for recent blockbusters such as Green Lantern and Senna. Payments can be made via Visa, Mastercard, Amex or Discover debit and credit cards.

Playback comes via the Movies for Android 'Videos' app, available now from the Android Market and compatible with Android 2.2, 2.3, and 3.1 devices. monitors all leading technology stories and rounds them up to help you save time hunting them down.
