Lane Fox Envisages UK as a ‘Networked Nation’, Starts ‘Give an Hour’ Campaign

Martha Lane Fox - the Digital Champion from UK has kick started a new campaign, appealing to the Internet surfers within the country to lend one hour from their schedule to help all those who never had the privilege of using the Web.

According to data, over 50 percent of the UK's population is now using the Internet on a regular basis. And, according to Lane Fox, with more and more services relying heavily on the Web, the trend could eventually push the 8.7 million odd people, who have never used the Internet, away from the society.

Lane Fox also claims that today, almost nine of 10 new jobs are looking for online applications. In addition, the Web users are usually seen pocketing 10 percent higher salaries than non users.

Keeping in mind these facts, the government is also trying to improve the Web usage-rate in the country.

"Our latest campaign will run from 24 October - 12 November, and I've been told you'll have to live under a rock to miss it," Lane Fox wrote on a blog post, FreeBusinessThinking (opens in new tab) reports.

"‘Give an Hour' is a campaign devoted to inspiring, encouraging and supporting the UK to become a truly networked nation," she added.
