Mobile phone carrier Three has revealed that 97 percent of its traffic is data, indicating the rise of Internet use on smartphones and other mobile devices.
In a blog post (opens in new tab), the company claimed that there was a considerable rise in data usage on its network, accounting for 97 percent of network traffic.
Three revealed that between June last year and September of this year, was a 427 percent rise in data use by its smartphone customers.,
The company had launched its 3G network back in 2003, basing its entire selling strategy on it. The gamble seems to have paid off not only for the company, but for its customers. Three recently received the Best Network award at the uSwitch.co.uk Mobile Awards.
The company claimed that it has been constantly been updating its existing network and will continue to do so in the future.
"Calls and texts are important, of course, but our 3G network was made for the mobile Internet and we've been growing it, and upgrading it, and perfecting it to make it the best it can be. Don't get me wrong though, we're not sitting back and twiddling our thumbs - we're constantly pushing for better," said the company.
