Broadband services provider Virgin Media has announced that its super-fast 100 Mbps connection is available to 20 million people in the UK.
The company, announcing the milestone, also informed that it is on schedule to deliver the super-fast broadband connection across its entire network in the middle of next year.
The announcement comes as the company launched its service in Harborne, Birmingham, Seven Kings in Greater London, Lincoln and Solihull.
"Providing speeds of 100Mb to a third of the UK today, and to a further four million homes by the middle of next year, assures Virgin Media's lead in the British broadband revolution," said Jon James, Virgin Media's executive director of broadband.
"This is the sort of connectivity that can give families access to the best in digital entertainment and online services in an instant as well as provide the foundation for business growth and start-up Britain," he added.
The company also informed that it had managed to achieve speeds of 1.5 Gbps in trials and even demonstrated this service along with the 200 Mbps connection at the Silicon Roundabout in London. Virgin Media declared that it was ready for a future when customers demanded faster broadband speeds.
