Apparently, the best way to get a Windows Phone is by simply developing an application for the Windows Marketplace. Microsoft recently announced they are introducing a development program for applications, named "I Unlock Joy", which will run from 1st November 2011 to 30th March 2012.
The "I Unlock Joy" development program has four categories; all applicants must conform to Microsoft's policies for apps and technical certifications, as reported (opens in new tab) by Tech 2.
The first category is Submit and Receive. Participants must submit three Windows apps to qualify. The entries must be distinct - spam apps or replicas will be considered redundant.
The second category is Port 2 Apps and Receive. Participants must submit two apps that can be ported from any existing iPhone or Android app.
The third category is for women developers only.
The first 100 applicants in these three categories that have one qualifying Windows app will receive a Windows Phone.
The last category is for students - each student with a qualifying app may choose between a 2GB flash drive or a Windows Phone.
The app that wins overall must clear certification testing to secure its place in Windows Marketplace.
