The third game in the Uncharted series , one of the PS3's most popular platform exclusives, has sold an impressive 3.8 million copies on its first day of release.
The announcement was made in a short press released issued by Sony and quoted by a number of sources - though it doesn't confirm whether this figure is in fact sales to end users, or units shipped to retailers.
Even if it's the latter, though, it's still be impressive - a lot of stores base their stock shipments on the numbers of pre-orders and the general interest in a title.
Sony's head of communications, Nick Caplin was quoted as saying, "Uncharted 3 is a blockbuster and these incredible sales figures reflect that."
Caplin was also keen to mention that reviews of the game had been favourable, stating: "Consumers are clearly as eager to play the game as critics were to heap praise upon it, and the team at Naughty Dog deserve this fantastic reception at retail."
The biggest talk of sales figures this week, however, has been surrounding Modern Warfare 3, a multi-platform title that was predicted to shift some six million copies on the day of release.
Some went even as far to say that some 18 million copies of the game would be sold by the end of the calendar year. This would give the title a significant lead over the last game in the series, Black Ops, which appears likely to see its own impressive sales records beaten over the coming weeks as more figures are revealed.
