A recently released solution from Ghostapp (opens in new tab) purportedly helps users, regardless of how computer savvy they might be, to unlock or jailbreak any iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 or 4S including lifetime updates and support.
However, there are a few very big catches, firstly, interested customers would have to pay $25 before they are granted access to the download area to get the appropriate software.
The iPhone Dev Team, Comex and others who have previously released jailbreak solutions, stress that no released jailbreak should ever have to be paid for, which immediately sets the alarm bells ringing with this Ghostapp offering.
Yet, from the slick website Ghost 5.0 appears to be both user-friendly and reliable software, as the company advertises over 200,000 happy customers for its products. On the same product page unlock and jailbreak software for iPad and iPad 2 is also available.
Michael Kwan of Mobile Magazine (opens in new tab) also smellt a rat, and heroically, "in order to protect everyone out there, we shelled out the $25 that the UK company with a US owned domain wanted." And, sure enough, "all the links to the iOS 5 jailbreak were inactive".
A number of news websites were tricked by the apparent scam, and the website Ghostapp.org is still active; but our advice is - Don't Pay for any Jailbreak Solution; all trusted and reliable iPhone jailbreak and unlock tools up till now have been provided for free.
