Sky adds news application to Research In Motion’s BlackBerry handsets

Satellite entertainment giant Sky has released a free app for BlackBerry smartphones, which now adds Sky News on every major mobile phone OS in the UK.

The Sky news application allows users to stay up to date with breaking national and international news, which can even be sent directly to BlackBerry mail box – users can also send stories and pictures, straight from their devices to the newsroom.

The main features of the Sky news app for BlackBerry include the latest news feeds, video, text, radio bulletins, ‘your report’ along with being integrated into BlackBerry apps such as Facebook, Twitter and Blackberry Messenger.

This new app comes off the back of a similar item being released for the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 OS, back in September this year.

Sky news mobile applications have been downloaded over 4.3 million times in total, on the iPhone, Android, Windows and iPad – where non-smartphone owners can still access the news through m.skynews.com.

James Weeks, Executive Producer, Sky News Interactive, commented: “We are delighted with the development of this app and the opportunity to broaden the reach of our journalism. With Sky News available on BlackBerry smartphones we now have all bases covered, if you have a smartphone, we have a product for you. “

The Sky news app is available to download in the UK and Ireland on BlackBerry App World, at http://uk.blackberry.com/services/appworld
