Music retailer HMV, in an effort to turnaround the trend of declining sales, recently revealed a trial of their very first Techshop in London.
Opened in One New Change mall located near St Paul's in London this HMV Techshop will be selling electronic devices like iPads along with other tablet and iPods, headphones as well as speakers. The shop will also have a section of DVDs, games, chart CDs and also Blu-rays.
The company has plans to open a second site right before Christmas and if it succeeds then this format will be expanded under the banner of HMV Techshop.
Recent announcement by the US retailer, Best Buy that after facing huge losses they are closing down their 11 UK outlets, the response that HMV Techshop will receive has to be seen notes The Inquirer (opens in new tab).
The trading update of HMV on 9th September reported that, HMV's another trial format Fast Forward stores have succeeded in making profits.
HMV's market position currently is not very encouraging as seen from the fact that their overall sale dropped by 15 percent during the quarter that ended on 3rd September and if the company fails to do something about it they might face the same fate of Virgin Megastores.
