A new survey commissioned by PopCap Games revealed that social gaming is on the rise amongst online users in the US and UK.
According to the social games maker, 118.5 million users in both the US and UK played social games at least once a week and are also spending money to buy in-game currency.
The survey involved 1,201 people in the two countries and was conducted by market research firm Information Solutions Group.
The number of people playing social games has increased 71 percent from 2010, according to the report. It was also revealed that 31 million people had spent money to purchase in-game currency, an increase of 86 percent over last year, as reported by The Guardian.
The report also claims that the social games genre adds new fans every day with many people getting a taste of gaming for the first time by playing social games. The survey found that since February 2010, 35 million had started playing social games while 17 percent of the people are gaming for the first time.
The survey also revealed that 33 percent of people who played social games were spending less time playing games on their devices.
