BlackBerry 7 Sales Take a Hit after Initial Boom

Research in Motion's Blackberry 7 smartphones had a booming start but the sales of the new smartphones are dipping, it has been claimed.

Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley observed that Blackberry 7 sales are slowing down despite a great start, c|net (opens in new tab) reports.

He said that Blackberry 7 sales have been hit due to the release of the iPhone 4S and the price drops in the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS devices. The demand for Blackberry devices has also been hit hard by Android devices, more specifically because of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and its anticipated launch.

RIM has bet a lot on the Blackberry 7 OS as a means to keep people amused till it launches new devices based on the QNX operating system, which is expected to bring a whole new look and feel and functionality to the devices, which have been plagued otherwise by low demand and great competition.

Apart from the company's new Bold 9900 devices, the other Blackberry devices have seen low demands on Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless as consumers flock to iPhone and Android devices instead of BlackBerry.
