On Friday, Microsoft declared a new program specifically designed for helping ten developers or start-ups to launch businesses for various products related to Kinect. Kinect is a controller capable of sensing voice as well as motion and is available for the Xbox console.
Kinect apps developers for the Windows or Xbox have been invited for applying for Kinect Accelerator program. However, Microsoft still does not allow "sale of products based on Kinect for Windows".
TechStars is behind the funding of this program. TechStars is known for mentoring technology start-ups as well as offers seed funding to such projects from a venture capital investors group.
To be very specific the ten selected people or start-ups will be spending three months in Seattle, working out of the Kinect Accelerator office. These ten people will be receiving technical training along with support and Microsoft executives, entrepreneurs and investors will be mentoring them, reported PC World (opens in new tab).
This group will also receive US$20,000, Windows Kinect SDK (a software development kit) and also Xbox development kit. Once the program ends the group will put forth their business ideas to venture capitalists, angel investors and also media in other to receive additional funds.
People can apply for the program till January 25, which will commence from March 2012.
