Software giant Microsoft plans to give a massive boost to its Windows Phone 7 based devices by offering apps and games worth $25 free to people who buy the devices.
In a blog post (opens in new tab), the company said that the offer is valid from November 2 to December 31, 2011. "Through the end of the year, we're giving a prepaid $25 app card to anybody who buys one of the great new Windows Phones now on sale. The prepaid card makes it easy to jump start a new app or game collection," Microsoft said.
The company said that the offer is valid for Windows Phone 7 customers in the United States and Puerto Rico. Microsoft said that one card will be given for each Windows Phone and a person can hold up to 5 such cards.
Buyers will have to apply for the card and Microsoft will accept such card requests until Feb. 14. With 40,000 apps in store, there might not be a lot of options, but buyers would definitely welcome such a move.
The Windows Phone 7 platform has already received great reviews and the newly launched Nokia Lumia 800, based on the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango platform, has received top marks for its design and functionality.
