Sony and Vodafone partner up for PlayStation Vita

Computer entertainment giant Sony has unveiled that Vodafone is the preferred provider of 3G connectivity for the PlayStation Vita in the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand and The Netherlands.

The PlayStation Vita 3G/WIFI model will come with a Vodafone SIM card, so that users can enjoy social gaming experiences whilst away from WIFI.

Vodafone’s 3G connectivity allows users to stay constantly connected to the PlayStation world, along with their gaming friends by using PS Vita’s native gaming and social networking applications.

There is a ‘near’ application on PS Vita to allow users to discover the games other PS Vita users are playing in their surrounding areas. Near will also enable location-based gaming features such as ‘gifting’, where users can share and leave virtual items, such as costumes and treasures, at the various locations they have visited.

Vita owners will also be able to keep in touch and update their gaming status via the dedicated applications for Facebook, Twitter and FourSquare on the product.

Customers will be able to buy PS Vita 3G/WIFI model direct from Vodafone both online and in store, although it is not known if the device will be subsidised in anyway.

Buyers from Vodafone will receive a free PlayStation Network voucher for the racing game WipEout 2048, which will be available to download from PlayStation Store.

PlayStation Vita WIFI model will be available on 22nd of January for €249, or for €299 for the 3G+WIFI version on a range of flexible data plans on Vodafone.
