Sony Ericsson Xperia phones launched in 2011 will receive an update to latest version of Android - Android 4.0, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich, by March 2012.
The official confirmation was posted on the Xperia blog (opens in new tab).
This tip to convert to the latest Android came via Sony Ericsson Italy's Facebook page, in which Maurizio De Palma, the company's head of marketing, replied to a query regarding when Sony Ericsson's Xperia wil be getting Ice Cream Sandwich. Palma responded by saying update "should arrive by March."
The catch, however, is that the updates are only for Xperia models released this year including Xperia Arc and Xperia Play.
Earlier, Sony Ericsson confirmed that 2011 releases of Xperia will be getting the Android 4.0 updated, but by what time was not fixed, as reported (opens in new tab) by CNET.
Xperia Play and Xperia Arc were both were launched in March of this year. So following this schedule, perhaps Sony Ericsson will not provide Ice Cream Sandwich updates for all of its smartphones as that might prove harmful for its latest and yet to be released smartphones.
