YouTube racist tram rant woman arrested by police

A woman who appeared on a YouTube video racially abusing fellow passengers on a south London tram has been arrested by police.

Emma West, 34, of New Addington, Croydon, hurled a barrage of racial slurs at members of ethnic minorities on a Croydon to Wimbledon tram, demanding that they "go back to their own country."

West's expletive-filled rant lasted several minutes as fellow passengers angrily challenged her and complained at her use of language in front of a number of children. West's young son was filmed sitting on her lap playing with an action figure throughout the diatribe.

The video attracted more than two million views after being posted on popular video sharing website YouTube on Sunday.

West was arrested by police on Monday and is accused of a racially aggravated public order offence. She is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates' Court later today.
