Verizon Extends Streaming Content to Xbox with FiOS TV App

Verizon Wireless has launched the FiOS app for Microsoft's Xbox 360 console, which will be available for download to Xbox Live Gold members from December.

The company said that Xbox Live Gold members will be able to download the app to their consoles and stream HD content to their TVs. Users would have to be subscribers of Verizon's internet and TV services.

Verizon failed to reveal what all channels will be available to users but, did say that subscribers will have access to 26 HD channels. The company said that the channels will be based on users' existing TV packages.

Some of the channels that are expected to be available to users via FiOS include HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, Spike, Comedy Central, and the Food Network.

Microsoft had recently announced that it plans to partner with more than 50 international TV content providers to turn its Xbox 360 control into a living room entertainment hub.

"Joining forces with Microsoft and Xbox, we are breaking the boundaries between TV and gaming, and furthering the borderless lifestyle Verizon customers enjoy with our new offers and services," said Eric Bruno, vice president of consumer and mass business product management for Verizon reports PCMag (opens in new tab).

"We are putting the controls in our customers' hands, and giving them the ability to watch TV on another dynamic device that they can control with voice and gesture commands," he said.
