New Hewlett Packard CEO Meg Whitman has claimed that Apple could become the world's largest PC vendor in 2012 if tablets are taken into account.
According to Bloomberg, Whitman told the Le Figaro news paper that Apple could surpass HP as the largest PC maker in 2012, only if one counts tablets as PC devices.
"I think it's possible if you integrate tablets. Apple does a great job. We need to improve our game and our products to take over the leadership position," Whitman said in the interview.
"Apple could go past HP in 2012. We will try to become the champion in 2013. It will take time for the products that I have influence on to make it to the market." she added.
Later in the interview, she said that tablets could not be considered as PCs as they were like an additional device that people used in addition to their PCs. She also refuted the claims that tablets were eating into PC sales.
HP had planned on taking on Apple with its webOS based TouchPad tablet device but later ended up axing it.
