Microsoft plans to release the beta version of its Windows 8 operating system in February 2012.
Citing sources close to Microsoft, The Next Web reports the beta version of this highly awaited platform will be launched in February.
The company has already released a Windows 8 Developer Preview for developers to play with. It was earlier rumoured that the company would launch the platform late next year, but if the beta version will be out in February, then the full public version should be released a lot earlier than expected, perhaps September 2012.
The Windows 8 platform will feature the Metro UI which comes with Windows Phone 7 devices - which has been gaining a lot of popularity among the masses. This is because Windows 8 will be compatible with tablet devices and needs a amazing UI to compete with Apple.
Under the Metro UI, the Windows 8 interface remains pretty much the same as Windows Vista and Windows 7. The company is expected to drop the desktop feel from the tablet version of the platform, which would be the right thing to do.
