The LG Optimus 2X AKA the P990, can now be had from as little as £250 from online retailer Foniacs (ed : Foniacs are also giving away a free gift today).
The handset was the launch partner for the Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core chipset at CES earlier this year and comes with comparable hardware to the iPhone 4S yet costs half the price.
There's that dual core part running at 1GHz, 512MB RAM, 8GB internal storage (which can be increased to 40GB), an eight megapixel camera with full HD video recording, a 4-inch 800x480 pixel display, a micro USB port, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Android 2.2 Froyo (upgradable to Gingerbread).
Also in the bundle is a nifty HDMI out connector that allows the user to mirror everything on the small screen on a proper television set.
It is heavier than the iPhone at 139g and thicker as well. But it benefits from a very vibrant online community that has been doing its best to maintain the handset's edge on the market, nearly one year after it was launched.
For those who want a little bit more, the HTC Sensation mark1 can be had from £299 and comes with slightly superior hardware specifications, which will almost guarantee upgradability to Ice Cream Sandwich.
